Changes for 2000...
| Engine |
The 270cc engine of 1999 was enlarged (258cc to 272cc). It is more powerful, but retains the elastic power and rpm qualities of its predecessor. The new engine was thoroughly tested in the '99 World Championships.
| Frame |
The shock absorber support has been lowered, so the frame is also lower in this area. The lower, rear frame has been changed to aluminum with supports for the exhaust and air box. Also, the front part of the frame has been changed and reinforced along with some finish and design modifications. The result of all the changes is a lower seat height, and a lighter, stronger frame.
Suspension
The rear shock absorber is shorter, with the body made of aluminum. The suspension bars (dog bones) are also aluminum. The whole system is much lighter than '99. The front forks have internal changes, and are more sensitive.
| Exhaust |
The new exhaust has been totally redesigned with a new, lighter central muffler. The pipe exits the engine closer to the frame. The new system provedes improved performance, and is lighter.
Air Box
The new air box is lower, wider and longer, and provides greater volume.
Rear Fender
The rear fender is shorter and more impact resistant, with a 'snap-on' system allowing it to partially detach in a fall.
Fuel Tank
The new design is longer and lower, but maintains the same capacity.
Other Improvements
Longer kickstart pedal, New shock absorber shield, Reinforced swing-arm, Lighter swing arm axle, Redesigned central exhaust shield, New material for brake pads, New rear caliper support guide, New brake and clutch levers with 'break away' feature, New water drain bolt on water pump cover, Anodized handlebar finish, Composite seat, 'Year 2000' graphics.
