The second burst of throttle carries the machine over the obstacle, and ensures that the skid-plate does not touch down. As the front wheel reaches the top of the obstacle, Mark applies the second 'blip' while at the same time unweighting the machine. As the rear wheel climbs the obstacle, Mark absorbs the impact and prepares for the front wheel to land. It is not necessary to use the clutch in this manoeuver, although many experts use the clutch for the second burst of power. By dipping the clutch and simultaneously raising engine revs, then dropping the clutch at the appropriate moment, a greater burst of power can be achieved.
