Pierce Brown scores highest finish of SMX World Championship season

    View Profile

Visiting the birthplace of Supercross, the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing Team was looking for strong finishes to close out the SuperMotocross playoffs.

    • The Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing was a beehive of activity all day long as this is close to their home turf

    • Justin Barcia had a tough end to his ’23 campaign

    • Pierce Brown had his best race of the SMX Playoffs

    250

Pierce Brown stepped things up for the final round of the SMX Playoff, qualifying in third position, and setting himself with a great gate pick for the night’s racing. When the gate dropped for the first moto, he rounded the first turn in 13th aboard his MC 250F Factory Edition, picked off a few spots on the first lap, and powered his way up to eighth by the checkered flag.

For the second moto, he was 11th around the first turn, and sixth by the time they finished the first lap, and fifth at the finish. That gave him seventh overall for the night, and 11th overall in the series.

Pierce Brown: “The last round of SuperMotocross is done and dusted. All around it was a pretty good day. I qualified good. In moto one I had a bad start, but I ended up eighth. In moto two I got a better start, and I ended up fifth so I was happy with that. I feel like I was riding good all day...I'm happy with it. I'm ready to take some time off and then get back to work. "

    450

For Justin Barcia, his night was spectacular, but unfortunately, far too brief. Justin has had a string of great starts during the SMX Playoffs, and that continued in the Coliseum, as he powered his MC 450F Factory Edition into second as he rounded the first turn. He had made a pass for the lead on the first lap, but a hard crash immediately after that put an end to his night. He finished his season in seventh overall among the 450 class competitors.

Simon Langenfelder: “New team, same colors! It’s super exciting for me to continue racing on GASGAS bikes. With the support and guidance of this experienced team, I think I can really progress in the MX2 World Championship. I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy with my new teammates recently and everything is really positive. I’m really enjoying this new environment and team structure. This off-season isn’t quite as long as we had last year but for sure I can make improvements. One thing that I will be working on is my speed, to be faster through the opening laps of each race as the intensity after the gate drop is so high. But overall, the future looks really great, and I think 2022 will be the year that my results improve to the next level.”

Mattia Guadagnini: “I’m really excited for the 2022 season and to be a part of Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing is just amazing. The new colors are so good, and the set-up looks awesome! It’s great to stay within the same team structure as it’s like one big family, which is really important for me. All the hard work that we put in over the last year really paid off as I had such a great season in 2021, it was even better than I expected. For sure it was an amazing year and with another winter together I believe we can be even better in 2022 on the new GASGAS bikes. The first round isn’t too far away now and I‘m so excited to get started at Matterley Basin. It’s one of my favorite tracks and it’s where I won my first ever MX2 moto, so I have fond memories of that place. It would be amazing to start the season with a strong result there and carry that momentum into the rest of the year.

Jorge Prado: “It’s a really special feeling for me as a Spaniard to be competing for GASGAS with its Spanish heritage, I can’t wait to start racing in my new colors in February. To begin the season early is perfect for me as I prefer to race and already I feel great on the new bike, so I’m really excited for round one. I’ve learned so much during the last two seasons in MXGP and feel that I can improve my level even more in 2022. For sure it won’t be easy, and I’ll be racing against some of the best racers in the world who have much more experience, but I feel ready to battle with them once again. With what I’ve learned during the last two years I believe I can run up front more consistently and I’m excited to get the new season started.”

      BIO

Daniel Sanders is our new Desert Charger . More than capable of putting himself and our RC 450F rally bike at the top of the timing sheets, the young Aussie is hugely excited to be racing for GASGAS Factory Racing in 2021.

As a former ISDE winner, Sanders clearly has the skills needed to compete at the highest level on two wheels, something he made perfectly clear at the 2021 Dakar. Rocketing to a seriously impressive fourth overall and finishing as best rookie, make no mistake, Daniel has arrived on the rally scene, and we can’t wait to see what he can do in 2021 and beyond.

With Sanders recently completing his final preparations ahead of the 2021 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, the 26-year-old will compete in the six-round series, which concludes in November, and then onto the big one – the Dakar Rally – in January 2022.

Simon Carlsson: “I’m really looking forward to riding GASGAS. My new bike feels great to ride and I can’t wait to get on the road with the team and start the season. The E-EDR World Cup is growing fast, and the field is strong. But I feel like I learned a lot during my first eMTB race season last year so I’m keen to continue developing and learning new things with GASGAS. It’s going to be a fun year!”

Johannes Fischbach: “It’s great to join the GASGAS family and do my bit to push ahead with the development of their bikes. I have loved riding eMTB bikes ever since they came out. To race them now at the highest level in the E-EDR with GASGAS is a great opportunity I’m very grateful I got. The team is a natural fit, I can feel the passion for bikes here, so there’s going to be a lot of fun ahead for sure.”

Alexandre Fayolle: “It's an amazing opportunity for me to join GASGAS this year. I'm really excited to work with motivated and professional people to improve my experience on the bike. The E-EDR season starts in June, so we have a little more time to test and try lots of new things! I'm really enjoying the process and can't wait to start the new season with everybody. With the experience I have gained from my last two years in the EWS-E I believe I can be really competitive and even more consistent.”

Alex Marin: “Joining GASGAS is a new chapter that I’m really excited about. It might come as a surprise to people, but with the style and vibe they are putting out, it fits me perfectly so I can see us having a cool time together. I’ve always known the brand having grown up 20 minutes from their factory in Barcelona. When they stepped into ebikes I found it super interesting, so when they gave me the chance to be a part of the family, I knew straight away it was the right decision for me. I want to keep growing as a rider, create great content and tell my story. I’m excited to see how far we can take things.”
