RUNNER-UP RESULT FOR GASGAS FACTORY RACING AT MXGP OF LOMBARDIA

STANDING CONSTRUCT’S GLENN COLDENHOFF CLAIMS SECOND PODIUM APPEARANCE OF THE SEASON AT MXGP ROUND NINE

Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff has returned to the MXGP podium with an impressive second overall result at the MXGP of Lombardia, round nine of the FIM Motocross World Championship. A positive day all round saw Coldenhoff race to a fourth-place finish in race one, which he then bettered in moto two with an impressive runner-up finish to secure second overall. Bad luck continued to follow his MXGP teammate Ivo Monticelli as he hit the ground hard in moto one before rebounding for a steady 16th in race two. In MX2, DIGA Procross Factory Juniors fill-in riders Isak Gifting and Michael Sandner made positive starts to their time on MC 250F machinery by placing 10th and 20th overall respectively.

It was a positive MXGP of Lombardia for Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff, claiming second overall following an amendment to the race two results. Feeling confident on his MC 450F from the first lap of qualifying, a solid fourth place finish in moto one set Glenn up for a strong overall finish.

And strong it was. Safely negotiating the tight first turn and chaotic opening laps, Glenn pushed forwards for the full moto and crossed the finish line in a consistent fifth place. However, following a revision to the race results long after the moto had concluded, the Dutchman was excited to be promoted to second in both the race and the overall classification but sadly missed out on spraying champagne on the podium. With a further two races at Mantova taking place this week, and with the sandy terrain being his preferred riding surface, Coldenhoff now looks forward to round 10.

Ivo Monticelli’s terrible luck continued in Mantova. A great jump when the start gate dropped for moto one was positive, but tangling with another rider in the first corner definitely wasn’t. A violent crash saw the Italian hit the ground hard and fearing injury he opted to not continue. After paying the onsite medical team a visit for a check-up, Ivo was battered and bruised with fortunately nothing broken so he bravely lined up for race two. A 16th place finish gave him a further five points and he looks for more when the series returns to Mantova on Wednesday.

Stepping in at Mantova for the injured DIGA Procross Factory Juniors team riders Simon Langenfelder and Jeremy Sydow, were Isak Gifting and Michael Sandner. Claiming 9-10 results gave Gifting an impressive 10th overall after stepping up from the EMX250 division. Michael Sandner placed a strong 15th in the opening moto and 20th overall.

Glenn Coldenhoff: “Second overall is a good result, for sure. I’d have liked to have been at the front of the battle rather than at the back of it, but it is what it is. I had a good feeling today which is important. It’s quite hard to pass on this circuit and everyone is similar in speed but luckily I had decent starts and was able to move forwards, especially in race two. The first moto was ok but once I was into fourth, I fell into a rhythm behind Cairoli and was unable to make a pass. Overall, good points, second overall after a couple of guys jumped on a yellow flag and up to fifth in the championship. I’m looking forward to Wednesday.”

Ivo Monticelli: “Another tough one. I had a great start in race one but tangled with someone going into the first corner. I hit my head, chest and back and was in a lot of pain so it was not possible to continue, I saw the medical team and I checked out ok, just bruising, so I lined up for race two. Again, I hit someone in the first turn but stayed upright but I was way down field. I was able to push through and passed a couple of guys in the last two laps for 16th. Some points on the board but not where I should be. We’ll regroup and line up again Wednesday and hope to improve.”

Isak Gifting: “It was a very good day for me at my first ever GP and race on my GASGAS. I was a little bit nervous but after qualifying I felt much more relaxed. To get 9-10 in the motos and 10th overall felt great and I’m so thankful for the team for giving me the tools to make this work! Starts were not so good but this is something we will work on ahead of the next race on Wednesday.”

Michael Sandner: “My day was mixed really. I woke up in the morning and felt a little bit sick, but I made the best of it and gave my all! With a 16th place in time practice I had a good starting position for the races so it was a positive start to the day. The first moto started with a perfect start, around seventh. I had very good speed for the first few laps but then struggled a little bit, I think I went too fast too soon and finished 15th which was pretty good for my first race on the GASGAS. Second moto start was not so great, around 16th on the first lap. I then I had a pretty big crash so that was my race over but I’m healthy and looking forward to Wednesday.”

Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and DIGA Procross Factory Juniors will next be in FIM Motocross World Championship action on September 30, for round 10 of the series and the second of three visits to the Mantova circuit.
