Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing jumped into the bottomless sand of Lommel today, as the historic venue that has been kind to Jorge Prado hosted round thirteen of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship. It was a happy hunting ground for '61' once again – he secured more silverware. Simon Längenfelder did the same in MX2, completing yet another double podium for the talented team.
Prado suffered from an uncharacteristic poor start in moto one. What followed can only be described an incredible performance, as he posted his fastest lap at the very end to move to third. '61' was five seconds quicker than anyone else on that last lap! That speed served him well in moto two, as he ripped into the lead on the first lap and never looked back. Six seconds was his advantage when the checkers waved. A 3-1 scorecard put him in second place on the Grand Prix podium. Ninety-nine points is his advantage in the championship standings.
Jorge Prado: "I think it was an okay weekend! The track was hard, which is normal for Lommel. I got better every single time that the gate dropped – I am happy about that. I felt much more confident in the second moto. I am happy that everything is working so well this season, so we will try to keep this consistency up."
Simon Längenfelder continued his incredible return from injury and collected another trophy, despite the treacherous conditions. '516' was comfortable in third in moto one; he held that position from lap two to the checkered flag. The second moto was a little more eventful. However, the result was the same. It was a rather consistent day – few can say that when exiting Lommel – and a 3-3 scorecard left him ranked in third overall. Längenfelder is now sixth in the championship standings, despite missing three events.
Simon Längenfelder: "I am really happy to compete at the front in the sand for Lommel! I am getting better with every race that happens, after my injury. I will recover well after this weekend and get stronger."
Jorge Prado and Simon Längenfelder will turn their attention to another sandy track, Vantaa, now, as that venue will host the Grand Prix of Finland this coming weekend. That'll be round fourteen of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship.
