The GASGAS Racing Team enters the 2022 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) at full-strength with Hayden Mellross (SX1) and Noah Ferguson (SX2) looking ahead to this weekend's season-opener in Melbourne.
For 27-year-old Mellross, the series marks the first time he will compete in supercross following a four-year absence, having been ruled out of the most recent 2019 season with injury and the subsequent series not taking place.
Nonetheless, as a former series runner-up in the 250 class, Mellross enters this year’s AUSX campaign fully motivated and confident with the work that he and the GASGAS Racing Team have done in preparation onboard the MC 450F.
This year will mark Ferguson’s first-ever supercross campaign, with the 19-year-old cutting his initial laps on a SX track just six weeks ago. The Queenslander has made solid progress over that time and has his sights on soaking up as much experience as possible across the four-rounds, equipped with the MC 250F.
Marvel Stadium on Friday opens the 2022 Australian Supercross Championship as part of the World Supercross Championship Australian Grand Prix weekend.
Hayden Mellross: "I’m excited, to say the least! It’s been four years too long and prior to that I was spending years just racing supercross only. I’ve got experience on my side, but I’m so eager, so keen to get out there and get back amongst it. We feel pretty good, we feel confident with myself and the bike and once we put it in a race situation we will know where we are, but where we are at right now, we feel that we have a good package to deliver a solid result. I have all of the confidence in the world that myself and the GASGAS Racing Team will put in the hard work on Friday and I believe we will be happy with the result."
Noah Ferguson: "It’s really good and my first year ever doing supercross, so I've been building into it with the aim of making each of the four rounds and it’s going to be pretty exciting. It’s about getting experience, getting to know every new track and being there for each race. It’s going to be such a big event, especially round one, a lot different to what I am used to with motocross. The transition has been good so far though, because at first I didn’t know what to expect, as six weeks ago I had never touched a SX track! I’ve been building confidence and riding with Hayden some of the other guys in testing, which is inspiring knowing that I’m not too far off where I should be."
