Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing competed in a rather different setting earlier today, as the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship ventured to Asia for the first time this year. Jorge Prado continued to control the narrative in the premier division – he extended his championship lead to triple digits.
Jorge Prado started the Grand Prix of Sumbawa-Indonesia in a very commanding position and he only strengthened that via some impressive results. '61' was triumphant in the first moto today and posted the quickest lap of the stint too. The second moto was not quite as straightforward, however, as he found himself in intense battles from beginning to end. Third was where he finished in that moto, which put him second in the overall classification, and that helped him extend his advantage in the standings to one hundred and one points. Such a healthy lead is the result of hard work from all involved.
Jorge Prado: "It was a good weekend! I got the win in moto one, which was very nice, and I keep winning motos each week, which is good. I could not hold onto second in the second moto – the track was sketchy. I am happy with second overall. Everything looks good at the moment. Thank you to my team for all of their hard work."
Less than two months on from his injury, Simon Langenfelder returned to the MX2 division and made an immediate impact. '516' ran as high as third in the first moto, despite the amount of seat time that he has missed, before dropping to fourth on the last lap. The second stint was made more difficult by an error on lap seven, but he recovered well to reach the checkered flag in tenth. 4-10 scores left him in seventh overall in his return to racing. Eighth is where he sits in the championship standings, despite the fact that he missed three Grands Prix.
Simon Langenfelder: "It was great to be back aboard my MC 250F. I missed three rounds and jumping back into the middle of the season is never easy, but I am happy with what we did today. I feel like we can build on this and make steps forward quite quickly. I am really happy leaving Sumbawa."
What is next for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing squad? Another Indonesian fixture, as round eleven of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship will be run on the island of Lombok on July 02.
