PAULS JONASS BACK TO HIS BEST AT MXGP ROUND 11

Back to his hard-charging best and running up front in the MXGP World Championship, Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass has claimed a solid fourth place overall result at the MXGP of Germany! Great starts in both points-paying motos allowed the Latvian to ride his own races, battle hard, and secure solid 6-4 result at the ridiculously rutty Teutschenthal circuit. Teammate Brian Bogers also impressed on the hardpack with the Dutchman placing eighth overall. In the MX2 class it was Simon Langenfelder’s home GP with his seventh-place overall result definitely giving the supportive crowd something to shout about. Isak Gifting ultimately placed 13th overall.

  • Pauls Jonass back to his best at MXGP round 11
  • Solid home GP for Simon Langenfelder
  • MXGP resumes in one week’s time in France

Pauls Jonass: “Overall, it was a good day with decent starts and decent results. The only thing I’m lacking is a little intensity on the opening laps. My speed is good so if I can just stay a little closer to the leaders early in the races then I think I can improve my results a little. Together with the Standing Construct GASGAS team we’ve found a really good setting with the bike and with a lot of hardpack races coming up on the calendar, I’m feeling really confident for the weeks ahead.”

Back on his favored hardpack, Pauls Jonass was on the gas at the MXGP of Germany with great starts and some calculated riding securing the Latvian a super-solid fourth overall. Frustrated at having not ridden with a little more intensity through the early laps of race one, the 24-year-old dropped to sixth on the opening lap but regrouped as the race progressed to chase Antonio Cairoli across the finish line.

Race two saw a notable improvement for Jonass. With his GASGAS MC 450F powering him to the first turn up front, Pauls ran as high as second place before losing a few spots on the opening lap. Dropping back to fifth, Jonass maintained his strong pace to reel in Glenn Coldenhoff and make the pass for fourth with just three laps to go.

Pauls’ Standing Construct GASGAS teammate Brian Bogers also enjoyed a positive day in Germany. After showing incredible speed in qualifying, the Dutchman lined up for race one confident of a solid result. Emerging from the first turn in fifth position, the 25-year-old then suffered with arm-pump, which caused him to slow his pace and resulted in a ninth-place finish.

Brian was again well placed inside the top 10 early on in moto two and this time began moving forwards as the race progressed. Running as high as sixth position for a few laps, Bogers would ultimately claim an impressive seventh-place finish in the moto for eighth overall. Not a bad result at all for the sand specialist who now moves from 13th to 11th in the series standings.

The MXGP of Germany was the home race for the DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Racing team and the home GP for MX2 class racer Simon Langenfelder. Giving the crowd something to shout about all day, the 17-year-old ran up front in both motos with an excellent sixth place in race one setting him up for a strong overall result.

Langenfelder was again on course to deliver another top-10 result in race two as he ran in a comfortable eighth position until bad luck struck. Entering a deep rut, his gear lever was broken off, which resulted in the youngster’s bike being stuck in third gear for the remainder of the moto. Able to bring his MC 250F home in 11th, Simon was ultimately rewarded with seventh overall to the cheers of his home crowd.

Frustratingly, Simon’s teammate Isak Gifting didn’t quite enjoy the same success in Germany with crashes in both motos restricting the Swede to 13th overall.

Brian Bogers: “Not a bad day for me on the hardpack! In Time Practice I was third, which was a great start to the day and then in the first moto I was riding stiff and got arm pump, which was frustrating. I still managed to finish ninth so that wasn’t so bad. In the second moto my riding was much better. My first lap was really good and I went from 11th to seventh and stayed there the whole moto for eighth overall. So yeah, I’m really happy with today and thanks to the team and sponsors. It’s been a great day for the whole team here in Germany and now we head to France looking for more of the same.”

Simon Langenfelder: “It was such an amazing atmosphere at my home GP. The crowd were amazing all day and I could hear them all around the track so it was really special and I’m really pleased that we could have a big crowd. My starts were good in both races and in race one I finished sixth so I was really happy with that. In race two I had a good race going but I went into a really deep rut and it broke my gear lever off. I was then stuck in third gear for about half of the race, which made it difficult, but I managed to finish 11th which wasn’t so bad. Overall, I was seventh so it’s nice to be back in the top 10 and now it’s onto France.”

Isak Gifting: “Today was frustrating and it should have been so much better. I felt great on the track but crashes in both races really cost me, especially in race two as I crashed on the first lap and started way behind everyone. I came back to 15th but I feel like I should have been in the top 10 today.”

Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Racing will next be in FIM Motocross World Championship action at the MXGP of France, round 11 of the series, on October 10.
